Dermal fillers are one the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the UK,
second only to anti-wrinkle treatments.
As we age there is a gradual skin thinning, reduction of elastic tissue and collagen
in addition to the reduction of a naturally water binding substance that gives the face its youthful appearance.
These factors combined with external factors such as smoking and sun damage accelerate the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles
and reduce the natural fat pads that give us a youthful look.
Dermal fillers are a great solution for such problems.
What areas does it treat?
There are various areas that can be treated using Dermal fillers; the most popular areas are:
- Nose to mouth lines (nasolabial fold)
- Lines running from the corners of the mouth down (marionette lines)
- Chin line (or mental crease)
- Lipstick lines (or lip lines)
- Lip enhancement
- Frown deep line (vertical line between eyebrows)
How is the procedure performed?
Local anaesthetic in the form of cream on very small injection is usually required.
Dermal fillers will be injected with a small needle into the skin where the substance will immediately volumise the area.
How does it work?
Dermal fillers are biodegradable substances that are injected with a very thin needle into the skin. They provide instant
smoothing of the folds and wrinkles. They also create natural looking volume that will dramatically improve the appearance
of the folds and contribute to a more rejuvenated skin.
Is it painful?
With the use of anaesthetic the pain and discomfort will be minimal.
Is it safe?
Unfortunately the dermal fillers market contains many fillers that have not been thoroughly tested.
Therefore we only use dermal fillers that are FDA approved (US Drug and Food Administration).
This ensures that these fillers have undergone the relevant clinical trials and testing standards that ensure their
maximum safety and efficacy.
Nevertheless it is important that all customers have a full medical assessment to exclude any rare medical problems or the use of
any medications that might not be appropriate for anti-wrinkle treatment.
Pregnant or breast feeding women should not have this procedure.
Does it have side effects?
The immediate side effects usually include redness, swelling and bruising, which will resolve within few days.
There are other rare side effects such as prolonged swelling, redness and, very rarely, an allergic reaction.
Allergic reactions tend to occur with more permanent types of dermal fillers.
Further information regarding possible side effects will be provided during the consultation.
Is there a follow-up appointment?
All patients will be followed up 2 weeks after the treatment for a check-up.
What can I expect from this treatment?
The effect of the dermal fillers treatment are seen instantly and usually last between 6 and 9 months.
What are the limitations of the treatment?
Individuals who have significant skin laxity and wrinkling will not benefit from dermal fillers on their own and might need alternative treatments.
